Beautiful pictures, thanks for sharing! :D #1: Lotus corniculatus and an Echium, probably E. vulgare. The smaller, yellow-flowered one is a Trifolium, there are lots of similar species. #2: The daisy is Leucanthemum vulgare, the reddish one is another Trifolium, most likely T. pratense. #3: Sempervivum arachnoideum. #4: The "buttercup" could either be a buttercup (Ranunculus), or a Potentilla of some sort. The hairy rosettes belong to the Sempervivum; the white star-shaped flowers are Silene, possibly S. rupestris. The slender, fiery red spikes are sorrels (Rumex), and the purple flower in the lower left corner might be a Nepeta. The greyish-green leaves in the center belong to a Hieracium. Do you have a bigger picture we could look at?

Gottagarden, the exact same thing happened to me. I ended up with those orange daylilies too(Hemerocallis). That was my first introduction to "common" names from people who are not really into gardening. I try and use the latin if it's pronouncable (and that's a big IF on some of those honkers) or appropriate to the situation. For instance I certainly wouldn't ask the clerk at Walmart where the Hemerocallis are. Pointless. Funny about prejudice though. I once asked a friend of mine why she didn't use the latin to talk about some of her plants when she knew what it was. She replied that the rest of her friends would think she was trying to be uppity. So now I realize that there are people out there who garden who don't want to know more then they already know and consider it snobbish to use a name they are not familiar with. I like to learn the latin if possible and how to pronounce it. But I guess there are two different ways to see things even in gardening...One of the strangest common name mix ups was when I lived in Indiana. I was told that some people refer to Bell Green Peppers as Green Mangos. Now that would be confusing.

considered by USDA as noxious in these states: Colorado, Connecticut, Massachusetts; in SW Michigan it does not seem to be a serious problem just as northeastwisc suggested. Although in Connecticut it is classified as: invasive and banned, e.g. illegal to move, sell, purchase, transplant, cultivate, or distribute. I just transplanted some specimens myself because they seem to attract interesting insects and butterflies in the wild; the plants even set seed and I got self-set seedlings at the end of the summer, so they do seem to be quite prolific.
