Help in identifying orange-fruited plant in Oregon

I recently moved to Oregon after 30 years overseas. Backyard is heavily wooded area with large trees. In shaded area are many 2-foot high bushes that currently have small (1/2") bright orange fleshy fruit/berries containing 6 small hard seeds. Berries are at terminus of branches and in groups of 2-3 under the leaves. The leaves are growing directly from the branch without stems. Pointed smooth-edged leaves with veins parallel to the central stem. I have not seen this plant bloom so do not have any information about flower type.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Can you post a picture?
Are the leaves alternate or opposite along the stem?

Very excited about Epipactis....still not sure if that is what it is though. I will wait till it blooms. From what I have googled it looks like it gets numerous buds, these only have one at the top. Thanks!

Hi, Just for interest sake -- I have this plant growing at home as well. I find that in winter it looks like its been thru a shredder but come the warmer months it bounces back to form a beautifully rounded bush. Around here (in Sydney Aust.) both crows and what we call currawongs (another bird) love eating the berry and I suspect that it is how the seeds may disperse. The fallen fruit will also produce seedlings where it drops -- these can be easily transplanted and grown on. Ted PS: Kids love to see how far they can roll the fruit down the driveway !!

Bite into the fruit, skin and all. If the skin is nice and sweet, it's a Kumquat. If not so sweet, it's a Calamondin. It is a citrus variety, and both make great marmalades as well as good to cook with (use the juice like a lemon or lime). Due to the fruit's roundness, I'm thinking it's a Calamondin, but the skin will be the giveaway. Kumquats you eat skin and all, as the skin adds sweetness to the acid flesh. Not so with a Calamondin. haha, Bruce you are awful! I agree with Bruce on the color. I'd advise chicken wire around the garden. I have a 3ft rail fence around mine, covered in chicken wire. It keeps out the rabbits, but my Kuvasz continually jump the fence. Couple of years ago I put powdered milk and epsom salts in the pepper holes at planting. Next day while I was at work and husband got home early, he let the dogs out and left them. When I got home my 6 month old puppy had jumped the fence and had dug up every single pepper to eat the powdered milk. :-( they were all dead by the time I found them.... surprisingly she is still alive and so is the husband.

Thank You carol23, that's it. I've found out that around here it's called Hooker's Fairy Bells; here's a reference from a local Middle School. http://ghs.gresham.k12.or.us/science/ps/nature/plants/3petal/lily/fbell.htm
When I told my daughter what she had growing in the back woods she laughed and said that she was going to tell all her friends that she had hookers in her woods and they had bells on :-)
