Can Downy Sunflowers be transplanted? When?

I have several established clumps of Downy Sunflowers, but they are too close to the driveway/lawn and flop over and get driven/mowed over. Would they survive being dug up and moved, or are the roots too deep? I suppose they spread fast enough that it wouldn't matter if they died and I just planted new ones, but I'd like to skip the transplant step if it's not going to succeed. Anyone with any experience with this? Thanks.
