Not sure if its a weed or not. Gets white and pink flowers on it.

Did you find out the answer? i signed up on this site just to know about this same plant. It's growing crazy. Blooms last only morning and soon turn into dark black seeds.

Lisanti07028: Would've been nicer to point the OP to right question on "Name That Plant forum". I went there and it is full of individual posts. If you knew the answer, it would've been awesome to just reply here?

good point tim - people once thought tree of heaven was lovely too. ;) it is good to be aware of that issue - invasive plants are a huge problem here in california because so many kinds of plants adapt and naturalize here... maybe investigate it before putting it in the ground to make sure it's not listed as invasive? i just did some googling - and it is listed as invasive in some places. Morning glories are often bad news.... and they take over where natives used to be. All that ice plant between LA and San Diego is invasive - and now the native plants are gone.... Hi Danbonsai. Don't believe everything the ecoterrorists want you to believe. That is sandfood, Pholisma sonorae as dephora mentioned. I am one of the offroaders who absolutely love the Southern California dune systems, including the Algadones which we refer to as glamis. Sandfood seems to thrive in the areas the ATVs recreate in with many of us believing the traffic helps to spread the seeds along with a milkvetch whose false endangerment claim shut down many thousands of acres. While we understand direct ATV traffic will damage the top of the plant, there is no denying the plants are still abundant in our Southern dunes and seem to appear more often in trafficked areas verses the closed areas. It is a really neat plant to see in person and one where we generally stop to show the younger kids on the ride.

seemit - oldgraymare also asked this question on the Name that Plant Forum. Lisanti07028 was simply referring her/him back to his/her own duplicate question. It was answered 6 days ago and ogm responded with thanks. This is the kind of thing that happens when people post on more than one Forum. People following the thread on the 'wrong' forum don't see the outcome.

The plant is Hibiscus trionum.

I am not trying to be negative, but if the original poster had no idea what it is, then that person would not have known where to post it. It doesn't matter that this is the native plant forum, it's about sharing information.

I certainly wasn't being critical of it being here, just wanted to point out that it isn't native for anyone stumbling on this later and having THEM think that because it is here then it is native ....
