This was found along the road in NE Maryland. Notice entire leaf margin. Leaf upper surface like shark skin and all foliage opposite. Please ID it for me.

May be hard to do. Unless there is some very specific variety common in your area of MD. Don't know. Hopefully someone will know.

The entire growth pattern and appearance is similar to some sort of 'sunflower-ish' species. Unfortunately, all of these cousins seem to interbreed, and become very confusing. Botanists call them 'DYCs'... ummm darned yellow composites....

So, it is something in the group with sunflowers, and related species.

Looks like what I've been seeing in the stores lately called Opuntia Emerald Wave. Who knows what that means;)?Maybe Opuntia cochenillifera. I've seen that on Opuntias, well I've seen it on some of mine, where the new growth looks dehydrated. Once the pad gets bigger it should plump up.Remember these guys can take the sun. The more sun the merrier for this plant;).
