vernal witchhazel leaves are frying

The tag says full sun on my Vernal Witchhazel, which confused me because I bought it to try to naturalize/restore and old wooded area, and my understanding was that they are a native understory shrub.
Well, I put it in part sun thinking that I was doing it a dis service by not giving it enough sun, and low and behold, the leaf tips are yellow/brown and drying-it appears to be FRYING out there!!
I do have a back up location I'd love to see it do well in, but its in mostly shade (under a pine, but would get sun during the months when the dedicious trees are bare).
Do they really need full sun? SHould I move this to a shadier, less sunny spot? Maybe it doesn't like hot sun in the summertime??
