It is a Phlox. Compare with P divaricata.

​Good morning from a frosty NC. Thank you for your thoughtful conversation. I believed it was deciduous because we moved in in December and I don't remember seeing a lot of leaves. But with it being a busy time I may not be accurate in my memory. The North Carolina gardeners toolbox says that the Myrtle is subject to leaf drop during acclimatization. That may be the case for the Morelka since they're similar.  Thanks for the ID. This helps me talk to the (not big box) garden folks with some idea of how to care for these.

I really don’t think they’ll appreciate being transplanted at this stage. Maybe with next year‘s seedlings.

Hi iochroma, Thank you for the information, I will research it right-away. My friend was growing the plant outdoors. He removed it from the ground and brought it to me bare roots at work, not really sure how long it was out of the ground. It was in big time shock and lost a lot of leaves. I didn't think it would survive but it did. New leaves and branches are appearing but it has a ways to go.
