'Taming' wildflowers, e.g., mallow, campanula, phlox, amaranthus

I have quite a few wildflowers ("weeds") in my garden (and yard) that I really enjoy -- or would, if only they would grow where I want them.

These include:

mallow (including tree mallow)

amaranthus (I love the deep red/maroon ones)

evening primrose

yarrow (no problem, since it makes a good ground cover in the yard too)

campanula

phlox

columbine

alium Italicum

alkanet/borage

and a few other unidentified ones.

I'm wondering whether, if I harvest the seeds of the ones I like and then plant those in the areas where I'd like the plants to grow, is that likely to work at all? I don't think I'll try it with the alkanet because it spreads outrageously (just as my various mints do), but I'm wondering about the others. Especially the tree mallow, campanula, and evening primrose.
