Burdock

Hi, does anyone know a reliable place to find burdock in Oregon, preferably near the Portland metro area?

Burdock is not native to the US. It is a weed and common along roadsides, field edges and abandoned fields.

If you are looking for a place to buy fresh root, try an asian food market. Health food stores will have dried root. And various places sell burdock or gobo seed. Horizon Herbs is one such place (http://www.horizonherbs.com).

The previous poster is correct. Burdock is not native so you may wish to ask more maybe on the Herbs forum.

When we were young, my sister made a 'crown' out of burdock burrs and put them right on her head (she also did that with a windup train, and it didn't go well). My mom had to cut them out of her hair. Except using vegetable oil to make a huge mess, I'd guess you'd have to cut them out.

Ha ha! When I see big burdocks on the side of some roads here I think the same thing: "pretty nice looking weed - it'd look better than a hosta in a few spots I have". Good to know I'm on the right track :) Looks great! Its only a weed if you say it is.
