Tickseed failing to thrive

I bought about 15 of these plants from Home Depot in the late spring and planted them on the east side of a wooden fence that runs north / south. They get full sun in the morning and then are covered by shade for the rest of the day. They were covered in bright yellow blooms and looked really vibrant and healthy. I also bought Miracle-Gro garden soil and mixed it in with the native soil at the time of planting. They looked pretty nice for a few weeks but now they have a silvery looking coating on the leaves and only one plant has a single bloom, despite deadheading. I've fertilized about every month and made sure to water them when it hasn't rained in a while. I watered every few days after first planting. I would really like for these plants to get healthy and come back each year, but so far they look like they won't be around much longer unless I can figure out what I'm doing wrong. Thanks
