id not sure if native?

Sorry..no pic. Was walking along a wooded stream's edge and came upon most unusual plant. Thorny stem, True blue small clusters of berries cupped in a perfectly round leaf. Other leaves were small and perfectlt triangular. Any ideas what it could be?

Sounds like green briar also called cat briar. They are a vine covered with needle like thorns. The roots can be used as a substitute for pectin, soI've read.

Thanks for the replies. Embothrium, I should have said it looks like a Viburnum to me, but I don't know anything. Ken, I didn't see any thorns, but I will get a closer look at lunch. I was worried about the heavy dew and poison ivy everywhere and wasn't getting too close. I have seen wild rose bushes, but have never seen them flower. Wasn't expecting the flowers to look like that.
