Help with Ecology Project?

Posted by ecologyguy z5 IA (My Page) on

Hi everyone,

I'm a graduate student in Horticulture/Ecology at Iowa State University. I'm trying to collect seeds of many tree and shrubs species native to eastern North America. I am wondering if anyone living in KENTUCKY, TENNESSEE, SOUTHERN ILLINOIS, or NORTHERN ALABAMA knows of wild populations (or yard plants collected originally from wild seeds in these areas) of the following plants from which I could obtain seeds for a native plant research project. I welcome any information or seeds! (*** = plants I am particularly desperate to obtain for my project):

***Euonymus atropurpureus -- Eastern Wahoo
***Lonicera dioica or L. sempervirens -- Honeysuckle vine
***Corylus cornuta -- Beaked Hazelnut
Quercus rubra -- White Oak
Quercus alba -- Red Oak
Symphoricarpos alba -- White Snowberry
Fraxinus quadrangulata -- Blue Ash
Fraxinus pennsylvanica or F. americana -- Green or White Ash
Cephalanthus occidentalis -- Buttonbush
Ceanothus americanus -- New Jersey Tea

Thanks,

Bryan

You may want to contact the native plant societies in those states for help too
