Hi, i get very confused by fertilizers and rarely use them. i think however that i need to fertilize my vine maple and giant chain fern. We've got osmocote, a 4-4-4, azalea fert, citrus fert and rose fert on hand. Are any of those suitable for maple or fern?

Recommended for vine maple: only a top-dress of compost but the Osmocote slow-release with low N-P-K numbers will have a similar effect. Don't fertilize chain fern. They resent it.

^You can top-dress the chain fern with compost. But I wouldn't bother with anything else.
