My grandmother had dozens of these in her house when I was growing up. I believe it is a dried bloom. what is it?

I believe that is a seed of Devil's Claw (Harpagophytum procumbens).

Just noticed I had the wrong plant. Same common name but the scientific name of the plant that makes that particular seed is Proboscidea parviflora
