they are a true biennial ... seed and grow the first year.. maybe some will bloom ... over winter.. and bloom to death the second year.. and then die ... you just need to get the cycle going.. as you have.. since the ones that bloomed this spring.. will seed.. and add the second off-year generation its all so simple.. when you commit ten billion minor random bits of knowledge to your head... and then 2 weeks after you get there.. you start forgetting them all .. lol ken

I'm afraid you have left it too late to get flowers next spring with your tulips. They need sowing June - August to flower April to June. Not sure if you realise this but they aren't perennial. They are biennial ie sow one year, flower next year, die after flowering. Mine self sow and are already big robust plants which will flower in the spring. Maybe you will have to buy plants this year. Another thing that occurs to me is that your botanical tulips will be fairly short and unless you choose a particularly small cultivar of forget-me-not even they might overtop or hide the tulips.

Hi Ken, here is my experience with Roundup: Roundup is safe to use when no other plants are around. It seems to drift more than a foot, can not pinpoint weeds, probably should use it as foam then. Yes, Creeping Jenny took off on its own, roots about every foot or so, climbs down walls. I am fighting that too. So I tried Roundup several years ago, came too close to an established Sum and Substance which was gone in a year. I used Roundup against another crawler (Ajuga) too close to azaleas too, musty have crept into the shallow roots of the azaleas possibly after a rain, I lost two azaleas then. But that opened space for more hostas, so was not too bad. A few weeks ago I had to battle a larger "infestation" of Bishops Weed, remembered past bad experiences and used cardboard to shield azaleas and hostas against overspray (fine spray) while spraying Roundup. I only sprayed sparingly on the tops of the leaves. Bishops Weed is turning brown, hostas are OK, azaleas will show later. I notice when using Roundup against grass in cracks of pavement, that grass seeds will not germinate there, grass will stay out of there for 1 or 2 more seasons. Therefore, I would not plant into Lasagna layers down to past grass for a season when Roundup was used. Roundup is bad stuff when not used carefully. Bernd

Forget-me-nots is a name that applies to different species of plants. The Alaska state flower is the genus Myosotis and isn't all that easy to grow from seed. It's the 'true blue' color of the Myosotis that's quite striking. I wouldn't think that this is what's sprouting from the window boxes. Other native forget-me-nots are the genus Eritrichium and garden varieties can be other genera as well. One would have to know what 'forget-me-not is actually sprouting in the window boxes.
