Shoe Laces

OK. So this is not about plants, but it is about what happens when I go plant rescuing or other activites in the woods. My shoe laces always seem to become untied after hours of tromping about, climbing up and down, etc., outdoors. I double knot them, but this seems to happen with boots, hiking type tennis, or just regular tennis shoes. I think it probably has something to do with where my jeans/long pants, hits the laces, but I need to wear long pants out in the wild. This happens at home, too, but not as much as when I am on a long hike/rescue. Today I was out "rescuing" rocks, and it happend again!

Any advice??

not sure why a double knot would come undone like that -
the only thing I can think of is to try a different knot?
I've tried the "better bow" shoe lace knot (scroll down at the link) with success.

What fun! Who would have thought of so many ways to tie shoe laces! This gives me something to practice with when the weather is too cold and yucky for me to venture outside. Thanks so much, Bubble.

Shoe lace colors?

Back to the question: Lucille, I haven’t ever heard anything about lace colors. Now I’m curious! Jinx, I started out just doing a search for laces, wanting to see who sold different kinds and colors. I happened upon a couple of articles like the one below, and I was surprised because I had never heard of shoelace colors having any significance. There are some laces that just don't like to stay tied ... and yes, they are often on hiking shoes. I wonder if it is the higher nylon content or something.

You could use Bow Biters, but they seem to only come in juvenile designs!

Glad you rescued those rocks! Now they are safe for another million years. ;)

I had one pair of sneakers that always came untied but not my others. The laces on those sneakers felt different somehow -- maybe more slippery (yeah, I should have just changed the laces but I never did). Do you have the problem with many different shoes or just one particular pair?

I've never tried them, but I've seen hiking boots which use Velcro instead of laces. If you get too fed up, those might be worth a try.

Thanks for the other website. Yes, rock climbers do have to take care about tying their shoes. Mostly my problems are with hiking types, and they do have the smoother, almost waxed laces. Some of my tennis shoes are velcro, but I don't think that would work with a somewhat higher top hiking boot. Again, thanks for all of the help. I will work on this during the winter. We had some snow here in NC this week...and Thurs. was all morning outside for me in 30 degrees and windy. Br-r-r-r! Will I ever learn to stay indoors and grow to like housework???

I have a pair of dockers with leather laces, that never stay tied. I've tied them in knots and they still work themselves loose...
