dormant natives/glysophate

| Is it safe to spray my lawn grasses that are still actively growing to eliminate them from an area with a very sparse showing of native grasses, and then overseed the area and let winter snows settle the seeds down into the duff? |

| I've never tried this approach, but it seem, in theory at least, that it's possible that you could have some success with this approach. Since the warm season grasses are dormant and are unlikely to absorb the systemic properties of the glysophate, while at the same time, the cool season grasses are still actively growing. Just remember, spraying with glysophate may require more than one application. With seeding this area you may not experience adequate germination because the dead sod will form a barrier between the soil and the seed. Dead sod may need a year or more to rot away and expose the soil. |
