growing buttonbush

katob Z6ish, NE Pa

I bought myself a small buttonbush plant, hoping it will be as popular with bees and butterflies as other people claim. Now I'm trying to find a good spot for it. Does anyone have experience with it? will it grow well in regular garden soil?

I've seen it in the wild and it's always been around ponds or in very wet areas. I could put it in a moist spot, but it's not really what I want in that spot.

Also- is there any suggested pruning? or should I just leave it be.

thanks!
