Native CA Lupine Arroyo (succulentus)

Posted by gardenerme z9/21 inland socal (My Page) on

I did a search and did not see anything, so I hope this question has not been previously addressed!

I am in socal and getting ready to seed my southfacing slope with cal poppies and arroyo lupine. The arroyo lupine seeds look like very small, very hard, aquarium gravel. Is there any pretreating I should be doing? I know they will reseed if happy, so I would think they need nothing fancy to germinate, however, they are so small and so hard, I wonder if I should be doing something special?
Thanks!

The species is an annual. It should establish easily. Just sowing it properly is all that is necessary. Check the link.
If you are in the area check out the Foundation's nursery for great plants of California natives.

Here is a link that might be useful: Theodore Payne Foundation
