Propagating native CA rose

Does anyone have any tips on propagating Rosa californica?

We took cuttings in the fall and had a really bad success rate. Will the rose only root at specific times of the year? I also thought we kept the cuttings too wet in the greenhouse. Plus these are very small diameter cuttings from fresh growth. Is that a problem?

If anyone has any tips please pass them on.

I'm not familiar with Rosa californica but I would guess that it should respond well to general rose propagation techniques. Either way, you might want to ask your question on the Rose propagation forum. There's more specialized rose knowledge there.

I noticed only one link to propagation by seed on the USDA database link.

Below is a link to the Sacramento chapter of the CA native plant society. If you scroll down the page slightly more than half way, you will see a contact listed with a telephone number. Perhaps they can help.

Here is a link that might be useful: propagation
