So much for zone creep

| 7º on my thermometer this morning. So much for having left those alocasias in the ground. Oh well, as my wife says "so only the strong will survive this year". Makes me think twice about some of the zone 7 stuff I was considering in the catalogs this winter though.
Not the 7º that worries me as much as the swing from 34º yesterday with melting snow saturating the ground to freezing solid today. Hate to be a doomsayer but perfect for rotting crowns. Piled some extra snow on some of my southern pitcher plants yesterday, hope it helps, they're already under about a foot of mulch..
Anyone else in fear of losing anything other than me? |

| Well... Zone 7 is technically 0° F - 10° F as the range of average winter mins and 7° F would theoretically be considered 7b, if you want to feel better. LOL I'm sure there are many who are afraid of losing things - although many lost so much last winter. Plus there is the concern that back to back cold winters might take out the stuff that barely survived last winter AND what was newly planted this past year. This winter is a bit different however, due to the massive snow cover in areas that didn't have it last winter when really frigid temps hit, so they may be okay to a degree. All I ask is for a NORMAL year for a change. We have been below normal for temperatures for too long now. |
