Shaking off the winter blues

I found another great way to shake off the winter blues (other than rifle through hundreds of garden catalogs) is to sign up for some spring gardening classes. I just saw that Hicks is offering a bunch of classes from March 4-13. And I also just signed up for my favorite day of classes offered by the Cornell University Cooperative Extension at Bellport on April 9th (there's also one in Riverhead on April 2nd). Does anyone know of any more classes that are being offered on Long Island?

Old Westbury Gardens had a greenhouse workshop last year that was great. I think it was in April.

Saw a "landscaping 101" class at one of the local libraries (Brightwaters?) in yesterdays Newsday.

Here is a schedule for Planting Fields don't see toooo much there though.

Long Island Botanical Society always has interesting things planned.

Queens Botanical Garden has a series on composting with worms if that's your cup-o-tea. There was other stuff too but don't have my newsletter here.

NY (Bronx) Botanical Garden Orchid show is NOW.

Got my "fix" yesterday planting 3 azaleas and dormant seeding one of the lawns before today's snow.

I went to the Providence/RI flower show a week and a half ago. Got my "plant fix" there! It was delightful and such fun - the smells, the green, etc. etc.

Luvherbz!

I wish I had known that Providence has a flower show - my brother lives there and it would have been a great excuse to visit! I know the big Philadelphia flower show is coming up but unfortunately I won't be able to go. Maybe next year - it sounds like something everyone must see at least once! Thanks for answering all! Anyone have any other ideas?

To shake away the winter blues I planted several seeds, i.e., Bird of Paradise, Datura, coleus and white marigolds, etc... a couple of weeks ago and they are already sprouting. Spring is around the corner. I can't wait for April 20th -- the last day of frost here in Ronkonkoma.

Ciao

Cornell Cooperative Extension has some upcoming gardening events. Their "2005 Spring Gardening School" looks very interesting.
