Okay, once and for all, could someone please tell me what zone I am in - 5 or 6? I live in the Beverly/Salem/Marblehead area of the North Shore of Boston.

You are (DRUM ROLL)...... in Zone 6.
If you are within a couple miles of the coast and not in a cold pocket (like a bog or lowlying place) you're in Zone 6b, as I am. If you're in a cool spot, you're in Zone 6a.

Thank you so much - I can never tell by the maps and haven't been completely sure for a while now - I live less than a mile from the coast and actually have a little microclimate in my back yard - I have the latest garden in the area - so I am probably 6b -

Sounds like you're not far from where I am (Salem). If you read People, Places, Plants - our regional gardening magazine for New England and New York, they usually print a map that has a close-up of the climate zones for the region, and a breakdown of what the minimum winter temperatures are in those zones. It's a good mag to subscribe to.
