Invasives on wetlands

| My property borders a tidal marsh. There are about 20' of those tall invasive marsh grasses between me and a nice water view. I can't remember the name of the grass, only that it starts with an F. I am told that my state DEP will supply the stuff needed to kill them off. My concern is, if I succeed in killing them, will the water move further toward my property? Do the grasses act as a buffer? Right now the area where the grasses are are muddy, but otherwise dry except in extreme high tides. I don't know if that's because the grasses are there or the area is just a little higher than where the water is. Has anyone ever done this? What was the result? |

| Rudy, we did this at the back of my Mom's place that borders a tidal pond. We removed the Phragmites by hand to put in a small deck or wooden platform to look out at the pond. It was only about ten feet and their removal didn't seem to have any impact on the water level. A couple years later it's probably safe to say there is no such thing as Phragmite removal, only Phragmite control. Good luck! |
