I recently received my first issue of GardenGate Magazine that was recommended highly in the perennials forum. I enjoyed it thoroughly, easy reading, informative topics, and of course beautiful pictures. I just don't think it will be enough to give me my gardening "fix" through the long winter months. Are there any regional magazines out there that you recommend? What magazines do you subscribe to and what do you recommend/not recommend about them?

I used to really ejoy Organic Gardening, but it morphed into another magazine entirely, Organic Style. Not nearly as good. I let my subscription expire. Check your local library for Gardening, Sunset, Martha Stewart Living, etc.

Horticulture Magazine is a classic, and GreenPrints "The Weeder's Digest" is a collection of very short stories with a human interest slant. Garden Design is on the fringes - it tends to have way too much garden furniture and such for me, but I still renew the subscription, so far. -Claire

People Places & Plants. Taking a turn toward organic, has beautiful pictures and articles, calendar for coming events.

I'm another one to vote for People Places and Plants. Love when I read it and find a nursery I can actually visit without an overnight stay. They're articles are informative, and yes, organic. Melanie

I didn't mention Fine Gardening and People Places and Plants because they've already been mentioned; but I also recommend them. For $35 you can become a subcribing member to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and get all of the BBG guides, as well as their Plants and Gardens News. I'm a magazine junky (I also get Garden Gate,). -Claire

I was going to suggest Country Living Gardener too, Carol. Also, Country Garden (the garden specialty version of Country Homes magazine).

I was wondering what happened to OG. Somehow I had gotten a free subscription to Organic Style. I like it ok but months can go by without me bothering to pick it up. sheila

Yes, the Peoples, Places and plants is a good regional magazine for those in the Southcoast area. I would highly recommend: THE HERB COMPANION. Naturally the obvious main topics are HERBS but also gives you basic herb info, recipes, crafts, etc. etc. Illustrations are just beautiful and articles very informative. I've been subscribing to this magazine for over 10 years and have not tired of it yet. It arrives 6 times/year! I have seen it available in my local Wal*Mart at times. Luvherbz!

Found out that Country Living Gardener is out of print now. Subscribers got a letter giving them options of a refund or transferring the rest of their subscription to Country Living. I did the latter, but find that Country Living doesn't have enough gardening features in it for my preferences. Right now I get Horticulture, Fine Gardening, Garden Gate and Sunset.

Another vote for Fine Gardening and Garden Design! Would not give up either one. I used to get Horticulture before switching to Fine Gardening-found it to be better. Happy reading!

Many were already listed - I just started with Sunset but I usually pick up the Garden Gate, BHG's special garden mags - Garden Shed, Perennials, etc. and also Country Almanac's Flower Gardens. There are many - I just spend some time looking through a few before picking them up, as some are old hat. But I do enjoy those with lots of pics and illustrations and before and after. :-)
