Gladiolus & Trumpet Vine

Hi all. I never planted Gladiolus (sp?) before. I have a whole bunch of leaves that have been up for a while. When will I see buds, or did I get a bunch of dud bulbs? Also, I planted trumpet creeper and it looks great-but no flowers at all. Is it still too early, or possibly another dud? THANKS!

Your Glads should be putting out flower spikes soon. July is the first month of bloom.

I have a few glads that I just leave in the ground all the time, they are now flowering.

Lynn,
Is Trumpet creeper the same as trumpet vine? If it is that flowers much later in summer. I have already have given my Trumpet vine advance warning, if it doesn't flower this year I will take out my handy little hatchet ala George Washington and chop it down.
Plus they don't really flower for the first year if we are talking about the same plant.

Yep, it's the same thing, Stella. I guess I have to wait till next year.

Hate to bear bad news, but my trumpet vine which is 5 yrs old, has yet to bloom. Last fall I gave it special blooming fertilizer, too. The leaves are lush and cover a trellis so I will leave it, anyway. It was one of those inexpensive plants offered in cheap catalogs, so that may be why. Vee

Vee...Lo and behold, I did get several blooms this year! I didn't notice any hummers, but I was still happy that I got some flowers. It grew a TON this first season!

slimjin,
I found after I cut back a lot of growth on the Trumpet vine the next year it flowered.
I was looking at a trumpet vine outside a resturant and they have trained it to almost a tree, it is pruned every year in that tree shape, it is covered in blooms, almost more blooms than leaves. I will try a heavier prunning on mine and see what happens.
