Pretty cool purchase at Amazon (pic inside)

The details page is linked below...
I've been hardening off plants but I always get impatient with my methods and the time it takes to do it. I have a crummy looking setup on the side of the house with a bench, some pots, and a piece of wood on top of them to create shade. It looks terrible and doesn't really protect the plants from bugs and wind.
I know I could probably build something myself but my previous efforts didn't really do that well. I can't wait to throw some of that stuff out! I can keep it inside in the winter also, care for sick plants and keep my orchids inside them for humidity.
I was also thinking yesterday how late I am in getting a lot of seeds started... sunflower, morning glory. I have a whole complicated setup for the MG's this year involving stakes and fishing line (don't ask!) and I should have been doing this over a month ago. But I just put the plants out to harden off yesterday.
Anyway, I wanted to share, because I found many other alternatives online but they were all more expensive than this. I'll let you know if it's as good as it looks online. |

I bought a similar greenhouse for $29 at Waldbaums two years ago. Very easy to set up. Same as yours, but taller with three shelves. Unfortunately it blew down about a week after I set it up. Oh the carnage! Lost all my seedlings. And the plastic cover ripped. Yours looks pretty safe, against a wall and fence. Mine was at the edge of my backyard patio, and it was in April.

That sounds like a pretty good deal, Jannie! I wish I could have found something like that before now. Anytime I saw anything decent, it was way too expensive. That picture is from the manufacturer, I haven't gotten mine yet. I was thinking the same thing though, how I was going to keep it from blowing over. It would be at the end of my side yard against the house so I would only have to worry about wind coming from one direction. I could just put some blocks or something next to it to keep it stable.

I bought this exact same set up at Big Lots for $10.00 last fall. It works great inside to start my seeds.

Yes, I saw the three-tier at Waldbaums, but don't you think it was kinda crummy in quality? It was basically the same thing, but bigger and mine's not as flimsy. But when I saw it, I stopped dead in my tracks and immediately regretted buying mine. Till I took a better look. You can't tell from the pic but the wire mesh that the shelves are made out of are removable and there are two on each level. So if I have a tall orchid (lets say a spiking Phal), I can put it on the bottom and take half of the second level out to allow more room. And I can hang some orchids from the cross bars which is what I'm planning for humidity in the winter. Anyway, I probably did pay too much (as you are all very happy to point out!!) but I'm ok with it. Please take pity on me. :D I'll need to redeem myself and get something dirt cheap from Maces now. :D
