Hi Mindy--As I'm sure you noticed, the set is modern, not true Victorian-era, so the price may be about what they'd get for it tho less than a local garden center in high season.

Wonder why Skinner's is even selling something like this? I don't know enough about it but I thought they just did high-end things. It's a nice set and great price if it goes with someone's garden style.

hi ginny, yes, certainly modern, victorian STYLE! but still, maybe it can be got for a low price and quite the deal could be had in it,imo.

skinners, like most auctioneers, have a regular auction that is called 'discovery' or 'variety' or some other attractive sounding euphemism- for things that are either not good enough to go in one of the regular auctions that @ dept has, or are part of an estate-settlement where an auction house is after a number of top quality items but must accept the lesser quality along with those. aside from retail clients, there are a large number of 'antique dealers' at the lower end of the scale- who are customers at this category of auctions.also, sometimes very good items pop up that don't fit into one of their regular auction categories, or that otherwise slip through the cracks.

It looks like a great price to me. If I had money to burn I'd sure be interested. I paid a similar price for just two bistro chairs & table, similar style, but no settee. And I had to paint them all white; they were a dark green color. I love Victorian things of all types, replica or original.
