"Mark your calendar!

The 13th annual Great Backyard Bird Count is just a few weeks away.

Its your chance to count for fun and count for the future from Friday, February 12, through Monday, February 15. You can participate once or several times over the four days. By submitting a list of the birds you see in your backyard, schoolyard, local park, or nature center at, you will help scientists learn more about how birds are faring in your neighborhood."

I used to do this as a group project with my class when I was teaching 10-year-olds. It was optional, but between the classroom feeders and the option of counting at home, I always hoped it would get at least some of the kids interested in the local birds.

nhbabs, that sounds like fun for the kids and something that isn't offered very often through the school system. I love to see the kids exposed to nature and it has to have a lasting effect. I have not done this yet, but maybe this year.
