We're heading to Providence from southern CT and don't think we'll be there in time for the lecture at 10. But I'm anxious to see this show and compare it to the CT show, which we usually attend.

I agree about the end of winter, especially because I heard some different birds outside the window this morning. I'm not a bird expert, but could these be early arrivers? What a crazy winter we've had this year. It came in like a lion, in October, and is going out like a lamb, in February!

I saw Rick Darke's talk, and it was terrific; if you ever have a chance to hear him, go for it. His theme was using 'experience, observation and imagination' (Bob Dylan's quote) in the design process, and he showed some concrete examples of how that works for him. He also had some lovely slides of Longwood (where he worked for many years) and Winterthur, as well as his own slightly wild garden.

The garden displays were nice, maybe not really spectacular, but several were quite lovely. There was an emphasis on naturalistic plantings, pathways that beckoned, and setting a mood.

All in all, a day well spent.
