Me too! I'd certainly give these a try. Maybe in a foundation bed near the house where it's warmer? Wonder if they really are hardy to Zone 6.

I have grown a plant with a similar appearance to amaryllis, Lycoris squamigera. It has the same shape blossoms on a similar tall stem with the same type of leaves, but the blossoms are a mauvy pink and emerge in August when the leaves are dormant.

Nhbabs, I have read about the Lycoris, and it's a nice plant. The thing about the Hippeastrum is that the foliage is there when they flower, and it's very attractive, at least I think so. And as far as I know, the individual blossoms are larger. I have limited space, so I have to make a choice. Maybe I'll look into the Lycoris a bit more. Thank you!

Ha! I never realized there was a hardy Lycoris. I just assumed. Now I'm seeing them in every catalog and clearly marked as hardy in my zone. Lycoris squamigera is on my list!
