| Has anyone had any success growing sweet cherry trees and having them fruit? if so which variety? the local garden center here has some Van Cherry & Bing Cherry trees and i was curious if it was possible to get the trees to produce.
Thanks... |

| I have considered growing cherry trees, both tart and sweet. I have reluctantly decided that they aren't practical for a couple of reasons, even before considering whether they will produce. First, I have a lot of wild cherry trees growing along the field edges on this old farm, and many have black knot and who knows what all else. So I know that I would be battling disease from the wild population which I am not willing to do as it would be chemical intensive. Second, I know that in this area most small fruits are eaten by birds if not netted, so I would need either a very small tree or huge enclosure to protect the fruits. So I buy my cherries instead of growing them. Probably not what you wanted to hear . . . |
