Good news that the winter moth populations will be way down this spring.

Maybe in some places, but they qualified it:

"With regard to Winter Moth, according to UMass Entomologist, Dr. Joe Elkinton, âÂÂbased on adult and pupal counts, winter moth populations may be way down this year compared to last year. However, this may not be true everywhere.âÂÂ

and

"Winter Moth adult flight was sporadic last November and into December but some coastal regions on Massachusetts, especially parts of Cape Cod, reported large flight numbers. We are expecting winter moth to occur throughout much of coastal Massachusetts, including Cape Cod, this spring along with potentially damaging numbers in Rhode Island, and perhaps parts of Eastern Connecticut. Harpswell, Maine also discovered winter moth last year, which represented a âÂÂfirst findâ of this insect for the state of Maine."

Not out of the woods yet, but some light through the trees.
