Great plants! I have R. recurvifolia that's been growing since at least 1996. I don't give it any protection.

Nice Y. recurvifolia Bill. Has yours ever died back to the ground or been defoliated?...........and has your recurv ever produced seed pods? Most recurvifolia/gloriosa forms do OK in my yard too......in 2008-2009 a Y. gloriosa variegata died back to the ground.....so I guess that type is marginal in our area.

This Y. gloriosa form has stiffer leaves, is growing very tall and is sturdy.....some forms tend to fall over or bend in our heavy snow loads. This form produced hanging seed pods.

here's a hybrid between Y. gloriosa and Y. elata. Great narrow leaves and it's a fall bloomer. I hope this one trunks!

My recurvifolia has bent under snow load. I have some of the trunks tied to a stake. Most years the very oldest leaves get sad looking and need to be removed, but it really grows a lot of nice, healthy leaves very quickly. It blooms well but I've never gotten any seeds. I have made two nice plants from pups though.
