Not sure how much help this will be as I have been growing mine from saved tubers for years now and the original ones came from someone attending my swap 6 years ago.

Anyways, after taking them out of their storage for the winter, I pot them up in whatever size disposable containers I have to put them in, just to get them going.
I use miracle grow potting mix, just the regular kind of potting mix. cover them up with the potting mix, then put some glad press and seal on to cover the container, put air slits in the press and seal and put them outside in direct sun, right on the lawn in my fenced in yard.

Mine have all been out for about a week and a half now, and are already starting to shoot up from the tubers.

I plant them in the garden beds, using all the soil in the containers I started them in the first week in May.

This has worked perfectly for me every year now, so if I where you, I would pot them up in some kind of containers with some miracle grow potting mix and get them outside now.

fran's got it. i've not used the saran because a) i didn't know about that brilliant idea and b) no sun these last 2 wks(much anyway).

Mindy, the reason I started using the glad press and seal is that it helps to keep the warmth in the container whether there is or isn't any sun.

If it had been really warm the past week or so, (I know, wishful thinking to say the least), I would have used the glad press and seal for a few days and then taken it off.
But since it's been so darned cold, cool at the most and cold at night, I figured that anything I could do to help keep the soil warmer was a good thing.

The press and seal stays on far better than just "saran/aka plastic wrap" and it's sturdier.

Tis got to warm up eventually, doesn't it?

I'm betting that we will go very quickly from this very cool/cold temps to hot and humid all but over night.
