Soil Temperature

I ran across some quart sized pots of Cornus canadensis L.

bunchberry dogwood at a nursery that I would really like to use as a woodland ground cover but all of my research clearly states it won't survive soil temperatures higher than 65 degrees. I have been googling every possible thing I can think of to find information on my communities high and low soil temp. Does any one have any idea as to where I can find this info? kt

The UMASS landscaping message includes soil temperatures for the various regions. I'd dig up where the Cape Cod data is coming from, and ask them.

You might be able to get that info from the NRCS (Natural Resources Conservation Service) which is part of the USDA. They do soil mapping and testing and at times put out recording temperature probes.

You can also check the Landscape Message Archive for midsummer soil temperatures

The only caveat is where the soil samples are taken (somewhere on the Cape proper) and does this vary significantly from Martha's Vineyard soil temperatures.
