Interesting.....but painful, lol! I'd try several things. One, the shiny party streamers in silver etc....tie them on something...birds hate reflective things for the most part. Also a mirror or two...maybe he'll be captivated by his image and start preening instead of eating! But I've found the streamers very effective even with woodpeckers.

Thanks, jant. I'll give it a try and see if it works before purchasing some new annuals. There isn't much left after today's feast! I'm afraid the veggies are next.

How frustrating for you! Starlings are non-native invaders that harrass native cavity nesters like bluebirds and swallows, and are therefore fair game as far as they aren't protected by the Migratory Bird Act (Federal law.) So, you can legally remove the nest if your neighbors OK it. (I realize this may not be a popular option with some others . . . ) In some areas they occur in such quantity that they are a problem as far as diseases and droppings.

Old CD's and Milar balloons are other shiny hanging objects you could use. A net or cages over your plants until they are tall enough to not be of interest to the birds is certainly a good idea, and then you can remove them before the different plant sizes and harvest considerations become a problem.

You could get a dog or cat, though they wouldn't be specific to the starlings.

Well, my neighbors want to close the hole in their roof, but not until the babies have fledged. However, my garden is now surrounded by shiny silver streamers and pie pans. Wish me luck and thanks for the suggestions.
