Surprise return

Last year I planted some gladiolus bulbs. Nothing special........just one of those Sam's Club bargain-in-a-bag things. Still I liked the colors and figured it would be nice to fill a void and maybe cut some. They did not do well. Not one flower, and the foliage was devastated by some still-unknown critter. I just left them in the ground and called it a loss. To my surprise, at least half of them are up and growing this year. Maybe 6-8 inches high now. No protection of any kind. And no they are not the hardy type. Either the books are too conservative with the hardiness of glads, or the winter was really mild. Either way they are now perennials for me!
