The winter was really mild. In my area, we had a z8 winter. This is the first year that I've experienced no winterkill on my crape myrtles and hydrangeas. I wouldn't expect your glads to last once you have a true z6 winter.

I think it's great that you have another year to try out the glads. Hope you have better luck with them this year. I tried them one year and waited too long to get them in the ground and they didn't bloom.

I had a pleasant surprise today....I've been waiting and waiting to see growth on two Hibiscus plants, Plum Crazy that I just moved this spring and Kopper King which I bought and planted late last fall. I knew they come up late, but when I moved the PC, I could see no growth along the root ball, nothing. So I see today that there is nice healthy growth coming up! I'm relieved because I just redesigned my border and I needed those two Hibiscus right where they are. [g]

My hibiscus (Two southern belle - pink and a white, and Lord Baltimore) have shown nothing yet. Not a sprout. I hope they come back soon!

Don't give up, they could be just late. I thought you had a milder than usual winter, Bill? I can't imagine why you would have lost them. My sprouts are barely visible, less than a 1/4 inch.

Re: glads.
I always plant run-of-the-mill Costco glads in a first week of May. But I do so only once in a two years and always in a same spots for easy digging. :-) Out of bag of 75 planted in May about 50-60 bloom in mid-late August, next year only 25-30 blooms and in a year #3 I plant another bag of 75. In a process of digging about 10-12 corms from the previous batch always could be found.
P.S. I plant them deeper than recommended, about 5-6 times the size of the corm.

Planting deeper is a thought, but I didn't plant my batch extra deep. I just think the winter was mild. When I used to plant a lot of them (years ago when digging them was easy for me!), I used to plant about 100. But I'd plant them over a six week period from late April to late May, about 33 every two weeks. That way the blooming period was extended. Of course, if they came back the next or subsequent years, they'd be on their own timetable.
