Deanna - I'm just north of Concord and mine are about 2 inches high, so I'd say you are probably still OK as long as you sow them right away. Be sure to sow them where you want them as poppy seedlings don't transplant successfully in my experience. Don't mulch over them as they need light to germinate.

OK, follow up. I couldn't sow them right away. I would like to sow them today or tomorrow. NHbabs, do you think it's too late now? Do they need very cool temps to germinate and grow? I still don't quite get how an annual can be sown to bloom in spring. It seems too soon! Would you sow them now?

Anybody's opinion is welcome. I got some amazing seeds, but I don't want to waste a single one. I'll wait till next year if necessary.

Ignore my last post. I'm running out of garden room so I'm saving all annual poppy seeds for my annual spaces next year and will WS them.

You can WS them (though they have to be where you want them, not in pots) or better yet, wait until snow has just melted and sprinkle them on the soil surface.

I just let some of my prettiest flowers go to seed and then let the seeds drop wherever they fall. I watch for the new seedlings in the spring and am careful not to disturb them if they are where I want them.
