In the shade, compound leaf with three lobes (though I could have forgotten this detail already) and nasty, tenacious roots. They twist around the roots of other plants, seem to have an extensive underground system that really clogs the soil...these are not fine roots. I noticed it first near a hellebore, and thought they might be hellebore seedlings. No such luck.

I'll be interested in what you all come up with.
