Yes for some. The rhododendrons and peonies seemed short-lived this year. Irises too. The record and near-record heat must have done it. On the other hand, a lot of plants are making great growth. Maybe a decent trade off?

No for others. Peonies lasted long, and so did poppies, iris, forget-me-nots, lupines, bluebells, rugosa roses. We've been having plenty of rain in RI, and also in my MA city garden.

I read (and smelled) that VT got hit with the plume of smoke from Quebec forest fires, too.

My Rhodys and Lupines didn't last very long.
But I agree other things like this kind of weather.

We haven't gotten the smoke here but over on the Coast of NH had it yesterday and further up I hear.

I live just north of Concord, NH. We had fairly thick smoke here - strong odor and extremely hazy - on Sunday (the fire dept kept getting calls until the news got out about the Quebec fires) with just a bit on Monday. It was bad enough that I really couldn't work in the garden - stayed inside until the wind changed mid- afternoon and I got in about 3 hours of outside work.

We seem to have most things blooming about the normal length of time, just much of it a bit earlier than usual.
