It's an Oenothera, not a Primula. I don't know which species, but it is very commonly grown around here.

The common name for Oenothera is evening primrose and as Mad Gallica said, that is what you have. IME it does spread around through underground stems, rather like mint, but there are several varieties and I am not sure if they are all rampant spreaders. It may also depend on how happy it is with your conditions, such things as light levels, soil pH, and moisture levels.

(Primrose, scientific name Primula, is a different type of plant that spreads only by seed if at all, IME.)

i have what looks like the same stuff growing in a hosta that has needed to be divided and moved for a while... I thought it was some type of loosetrife.
