So sorry about your squash plants. Did your sunflowers survive the storm? I picked one for the house and staked up the rest, and they seem to have survived.

Sorry about your squash plants too. I stopped growing cucumbers because of the squash bugs. I wonder if you have considered growing squashes under row covers? I was thinking of trying that one of these years.

I need to get out to the garden and plant for the fall too.

This year, I've surrendered, too. It started with striped cucumber beetles. Last year I bragged about my winter squash and this year I'll be lucky to have a couple. Zucchini that was managing to survive squash bugs appears to have mold now. I grow a round yellow summer squash and zucchini costata romanesque which are fairly hard until now. I think next year's strategy will start with row covers plust I think I will do a second, later planting. I had great zucchini until this past week.

Next year I think I am going to wait until early July to plant out my squashes. Squash Vine Borer is active in June. I read some where that one of the best ways to prevent SVB is to wait until July to plant. And that means I'll be anxious for zucchini come September next year!

They got mine, too. And to make it worse, I planted pumpkins, zucchini, and carnival squash and the only thing surviving is a round green squash that I can't identify!

I think I will try a crop cover next year, Late summer without looking for recipes to use up zucchinis just doesn't seem natural LOL
