What ate my ornamental cherry tree?

Lalala (zone 6b)

I was gone for two weeks and when I returned a few days ago, something had eaten many of the leaves on my weeping cherry. Some were just nibbled around the edges and others were eaten completely, leaving just the vein. In the past the only thing that's bothered it has been winter moth in the spring. I inspected it by day and by flashlight at night and saw no bugs. Other nearby plants, including roses, look fine. Any ideas? Could this be a brief oriental or japanese beetle issue? The Asiatic beetles seem to be gone by now.
