I'm sorry you're dealing with this!

Hungry rabbits, chipmunks, even squirrels, and/or your "friendly" (and believe me, I say that with a huge, huge dose of sarcasm and disgust) could very well be the guilty party.

In past years, I've had tomatoes completely eaten by any one of the above mentioned 4 legged "things".

I've actually seen the squirrels and rabbits going off through and under my chain link fenced in yard with the entire tomato in their mouths.

Those white wonder toms can be quite large, but they still fit in their mouths to run off with.

Did you notice any of the branches or stems of the plants eaten at all?

Of course, there could be a a 2 legged "critter" that had a field day with the green toms as well.

But my money is on the 4 legged kind.

That's what was eating mine but not each one of them...

That's a lot of heavy lifting for those tomato hornworms!

I haven't noticed our crow family in the tomato bed but I have watched them peck away until they get large crab apples loose. I see them fly off with what looks like a green ping pong ball in their beaks.
To have every tomato gone however sounds like a two-legged thief.

Think I discovered the culprit. Squirrels and/or chipmunks! Little $hit$!!!

OH, I feel your pain, believe me.

Mid July, I had an afternoon doc appointment and left the house about 1PM.

I left 12 tom plants growing in huge pots inside the fenced in yard. All where at least 4 feet tall.

I was hysterical when I got home, every one of them had been eaten by a groundhog that found the one and only spot left to get in under the fence.

All where loaded with toms, buds and flowers and a couple of the cherries where starting to ripen.

they where anywhere from 6-12 inches tall.

Yes they've all come back and look good, but no where near what they where and they all have a couple of toms on them, but the crop is going to be extremely sparse this year.

It's been full fledged war for me this year with the chipmunks and grounhogs.

whitegarden, email me and I'll give you some ideas about controlling the chipmunks.

If we are lucky though, this massive heat and humidity that created an explosion of them will also be their doom. Not enough food for all of them to survive and plenty didn't survive in my yard this year.

Now if we have a cold and relatively normal snowy winter, all the excess chipmunks will not survive the winter.
