I can't believe the lawn is still green in early-mid August. Usually by now we'd have the dormant beige look. I water susceptible plants but not lawn grass. Either the roots are really really deep or the downpours have been perfectly timed.

Claire - I'm with you re the lawn--I can't recall it ever being so green in August. Basically everything looks like it got a new lease on life. The late bloomers--cardinal flower, great blue lobelia, gaura, turtlehead, butterfly bush and their buddies--seem to have gotten their second wind...or water. Whichever, they're lush and happy which makes me smile every afternoon when I go walkabout the garden. There are buds on the caryopteris and the agastache rupestris is just beginning to flower. Balloon flowers are going gangbusters--with their long taproot they basically thumb their stamens at dry conditions. A few blackberry lilies are still blooming but the ones in full sun are developing their trademark seedpods.

I planted WS globeflower in full sun based on what I found on various websites so the poor struggling plants that actually need part sun/moist soil are reviving with the rain we've gotten every day. They're winter sown and will likely survive but I'll move them to my shadier, moist bed once it cools off some and I think they can handle the transplant shock.

Begonias are absolutely stunning with all the moisture. I took pictures today but haven't up/downloaded them from the camera.
