What plant is this?

Next door to a friend's garden in Newton, Ma is a shrub, I guess, 4 feet tall with cherry red flowers in 3-4" clusters of pretty smaller individuals. Very pretty. The leaves are opposing rather than alternating along the stem. The owner says that a landscaper put it in and it's listed somewhere on her paperwork which we have yet to see. Sept 1 here but this has been in bloom for at least a week so far.

Any ideas?

Oh, as I write this I ask myself how come no picture. Well will try to do that.

Is it a Knockout rose? If not, then I'm sure that someone on this forum can give you an ID.

RE: What plant is this?

I would try a photo if you can. A long-blooming rose is certainly possible, but also some of the small Hydrangea paniculata might be possible.

If you take a photo of the whole plant and then one that shows a bloom cluster and a leaf or two, I imagine you will get a fairly quick ID. You can add the two photos in two consecutive posts if you change the title on the second one.
