My camellia bloomed yesterday

My "autumn spirit" camellia finally bloomed yesterday. It seemed like a very long wait. The flower buds formed in August and it was amazing how slowly they opened. The buds showed a little pink color for about 2 weeks and then finally it decided the time was right. But it was worth the wait. Not bad for halloween!

Nice bloom! And we have some fairly mild weather for the next several days. My "Snow Flurry" has about a dozen blooms open now and there are maybe 200+ buds still waiting. With luck most of them will open before any really cold weather. It's a gamble with camellias in our zone. We have to hope that the fall bloomers will open early and that we get a mild autumn, or that the spring bloomers are bud-hardy and bloom later when the weather is better. But either way I think it's worth growing them. And anyway the foliage is always nice and green year round.

Aah, I'm SO jealous of you both. Beautiful, rockman.
