GardenWeb needs your feedback!

Hi everyone,

As you may have noticed, we've been sprucing up the site a bit. Among other things, we've added new ways to upload photos and email notifications of post replies. We are still cleaning out cobwebs and weeding some areas of the site, but we are also working on some bigger projects like a better search engine (yay!) and a mobile app. We'd also like to get some feedback from you. What enhancements or additions would you like to see? What do you love? What do you hate? Think big and small!

We can't promise the moon, but please know that we will read and consider every one of your ideas and suggestions. We appreciate your loyalty and dedication to our site and we know how important your community is to you. Help us make it even better!

Please use this post to offer your feedback. But, as always, you are welcome to contact me directly by clicking on my profile page.

Best regards,

Tamara Amey

It would be really lovely to be able to edit a post after I've made it if I need to.

Being able to search and get a list of threads that are actually in chronological order.

Being able to do a search for your own recent posts in chronological order.

How about a "report spam" button after a thread just in case someone posts some spam.

    Hi, Tamara

I agree with all three previous posts.

In addition, can the search results include the date somehow?

Also, including a way to refine search results e.g. additional ability to search within the results.

    Thanks,
    Tina

I'd like the ability to 'follow' friends - there are several experts on this forum, and some of them only post rarely. I'd love to know when they post something new, the way FB lets you keep track of people. Don't get me wrong, the FB garden 'forums' are awful compared to GW!

Anything you can do to keep this community of gardeners going will be greatly appreciated, although I'm sure we'll all gripe about any changes you initiate - that's just par for the course.

I'm another vote for searches showing up in chronological order!

I'd also love to be able to search for two things at once. Often I want to find a particular post and I remember the topic and a particular person's contribution, but currently AFAIK I can only search for either the topic or the person.

How about an iPhone app? Especially a free one.

I would love the ability to skip to the new post(s) on any given thread since I last read it, instead of having to scroll down and figure out where I left off. Another forum has this and it's very convenient!

    Hi everyone!

You asked and we listened. Today we are very excited to be debuting our newest feature -- post editing! To use this feature, go back to the post you wish to correct and you'll find the link under the 'My Clippings' links on the right side of the page.

I want to give a special shout out to all the testers who tried to break the editing tool. ;) Your feedback was insightful and invaluable. Thank you!

You may have also noticed that we adjusted the login cookie awhile back so that you should not have to login repeatedly.

Stay tuned -- we have more cool things in the works!

As always, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

    Best regards,
    Tamara

Does the new 'post-editing' function just apply to posts from now on, or to past posts too?

OK, I just went back and edited this post after it was submitted.

Whoa!I just checked a few of my posts from last week and the post edit function is there too!

    Thanks!
    Claire

I guess I should have called the function "edit post" not "post edit"

Question: When I edit a post, the thread is still highlighted as if I've read it already. However, there has been a change made and for an older thread no one may ever know there's new information there.

I'm not sure this is an issue if the edit is just used to delete or correct an entry, but if people add something new to an old post it probably won't be noticed. I guess the answer is to use the edit function for correction, but you should probably start a new post if you add information.
