I just bought a small Crapemyrtle in a 3 gallon bucket from Home Depot. I was wondering if I need to plant it now before the frost comes or can I leave it in the somewhat heated greenhouse in the 3 gallon pail till spring?

Which variety is it? If you are in a true z7 then you can go ahead and plant it now. If you wanted to be ultra-safe, you could plant it in a pot and put it in an UNHEATED garage, basement or storage area until spring. You don't want the potted plant to be exposed to very warm temps until it can be transplanted in the spring but you don't want it exposed to temps that are too cold either.

If you are in a coastal area where the ground is still fairly warm, like most of southeastern New England, then by all means plant it now. The plant will have quite a while to put out roots, since the ground won't be frozen for about 2 months. Just mulch it well, keeping the material away from the trunk(s). You'd really like to get some roots growing out into the surrounding soil, to prevent frost heaving (and subsequent drying out of the root ball). Good luck! These are wonderful plants (where they're hardy). - DtD
